Company Will Market Two Chateaux In First Overseas Vacation Venture

BeautifulPlaces has agreed to market two French wine country chateaux, Chateau de Villette near Paris and Chateau de Grimaldi in Provence. The agreement with the chateaux’s owner marks the first time that BeautifulPlaces has taken on overseas properties.

"These are two top-drawer properties that fit in perfectly with the kinds of wine country places that we’ve represented from our beginning in 2003," says Patrick Smith, president of BeautifulPlaces. "Food and wine are our passions, and reaching into Europe to work with fine properties is a natural next step for us. Our business model has always focused on finding opportunities in any location that combines the appeal of food, wine and beautiful luxury homes ."

The 18-suite Chateau de Villette is located on 200 park-like acres that are a 35-minute drive from Paris. The property is often rented to high-end travel groups and specialty tours that are seeking luxury accommodations.

The castle comes with an especially interesting provenance: Its architects, Francois Mansart and his nephew, Jules Hardouin-Mansart, and landscaper, Andre Le Notre, were laboring on the great palace at Versailles at the same time they designed Chateau de Villette. As a result, it shares with Versailles an elegance and level of detail that is obvious in both its architecture and formal gardens.

The 11-suite Chateau de Grimaldi is located four miles north of the ancient city of Aix-en-Provence in what many consider to be France’s most beautiful department. The main house is located next to the romantic ruins of the former palace of Cardinal Jerome Grimaldi, who occupied it from 1655 to 1685.

The chateaux are owned by Olivia Hsu Decker, a renowned San Francisco Bay Area real estate agent and socialite. "Olivia is a very busy woman who realized that her hectic schedule made it difficult for her to give her properties the attention they demand," says Smith. "That’s when she approached us with the idea of assisting with the marketing and rental management of both chateaux.
